Tips for Students

Wash less often, in bigger loads. Instead of doing small loads multiple times a week, let it accumulate and do one big load. You save money by using fewer machine cycles and your cost per pound drops if you are using wash and fold.

Use cold water for everything. Cold water prevents shrinking and color bleeding. It works perfectly well for regular clothes, and it is the safest default.

Air-dry what you can. Dryers are the biggest variable cost at a laundromat. If you have a drying rack in your apartment, pull out items that air-dry easily (t-shirts, athletic wear) and only use the dryer for heavy items like jeans, towels, and hoodies.

Do not forget your sheets. Seriously. Wash your sheets at least every two weeks. Your future self will thank you.
